Edrisah Musuuza, also known as Eddy Kenzo, was born in Masaka, Uganda in 1989 and began his music career after overcoming a difficult upbringing.
In several interviews, Eddy Kenzo has always described his story as “zero to hero.” Eddy Kenzo was born to a poor Ugandan gateman and a Rwandan refugee mother who died when he was only five years old.
As a result, he was forced to take to the streets and fend for himself. It took him more than ten years to reconnect with his father and brother (who recently died this year).
Later, while working as a ball boy for a soccer academy team, Eddy Kenzo would hide under the bus seats as he made his way to Kampala, the capital of Uganda. Eddy Kenzo joined the Sports Club Villa academy in the hopes of becoming a football player, where he believes his star will shine even brighter.
Every night, he mostly dozed off beneath the stadium seats. Kenzo would even sell drugs in order to supplement his needs.
He succeeded in music rather than football, though. When they first met in 2008, Mike Wine, Bobi Wine‘s brother, provided opportunities for him.

Eddy Kenzo Music Career
In 2008, Eddy Kenzo started his musical career. His first song, a collaboration with Mikie Wine, was titled “Yannimba.” As a result of the song’s immediate success, he earned his first significant financial gain of 50,000 Uganda Shillings.
Two years later, Eddy Kenzo released his second single, “Stamina.” The song became a popular choice for politicians to use as their campaign anthems during the 2011 national elections in Uganda.
In 2014, Kenzo’s song “Sitya Loss” (I don’t fear loss) led to his first significant international success. The “Sitya Loss” video, which featured dancers from the Ghetto Kids of Uganda, went viral after being shared on social media by record executive Sean Combs.
Additionally, Kenzo launched a campaign to book the young kids on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. As of 2022, the video had more than 48 million views on YouTube.
Following the success of “Sitya Loss,” Kenzo went on a brief US tour with dancehall musician DeMarco.
As he performed onstage with renowned Senegalese-American singer Akon at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations opening ceremonies in Equatorial Guinea, Kenzo’s star would grow brighter in 2015. He participated in the tournament’s grand finale as well.
